Log

Early morning, about three or four hours before sunrise, yet already a small encampment has been staked out on the outskirts of Eastbank forest. Benches facing the forest have been set out on the tall grass for beings to sit on, and transports are still bringing more sightseers from Firmament. While the luma moth is present in the forest for most of the year, it's only one or two days where they swarm like this.

The luminous insects dot the night sky with blues and reds and golds on their wings, making for a rather impressive display. On one side of the encampment, a few tents and folding tables in case of emergencies, on the other, refreshment supplied by the noble houses sponsoring the event. Beings have set out covered lamps and small dishes of sugar water near the treeline, hoping to attract the beautiful insects in bright clusters to form breathtaking sights.

A murmur as Flora rides... A new golem into the area. It's black in color and shaped even sleeker than her usual tiger-golem. The noble feline flicks her ears lightly as she looks about. Like usual, she comes prepared with some concealed weaponry, just in case. Even so, she does venture around the camp, curiously approaching one of the moths on a nearby tree.

Lina walks towards the forest path for her usual training exercises into paths beyond, not quite so worried about her upset appearance this late at night... that is until she sees groups of beings gathered at the edge of her destination! She quickly stops and fixes every small detail before she looks to breathes out and approaches the grouping, having no idea what is going on. It looks like beings are gathering the moths in large numbers, she can't engage them as is, it would be dangerous. Rather pretty though.

Cedric had woken early for this, almost unable to sleep at the thought of the festival. His anticipation for seeing the swarm of moths and catching them was almost childlike, not that he'd want anyone else to know that. Still, just looking at the badger as he meandered through the encampment, it wouldn't be hard to tell. He'd dressed up for the occasion in a nice reddish-orange shirt patterned with blues and golds like the moths themselves, with a moth-catching net slung over one shoulder and a crude wooden cage with openings too small for the moths to escape from. Cedric was only a little disappointed that he wasn't able to wake the captain up to come with him, but he'd make sure to catch plenty of moths to entertain him with, hopefully.

Amaterasu had settled on the grass, her legs crossed and her staff resting against her shoulder. She instead of taking a seat on the benches, relaxed against a tree watching the moths. She figured they were as frail as she was, yet they were still beautiful in their own right. She looked to the bowl in front of her, "You really should stop getting your hopes up." she mumbled to herself, yet that odd desire to observe such a pretty creature up close...

An eight foot tall, machine priest sphinx known as Jendayi makes her way to the encampment, grinning dumbly and just about kicking up dust with every heavy stomp of her feet. With her she has brought her artifacts, though her less-moth-friendly crusher is apparently stored elsewhere, divine shield rolling close nearby and twirligig set to keep on spinnin' spinnin' spinnin'- the very best party trick up her sleeve. A smile and a wave is offered to any who look her way, for the moment merely scoping out folk to speak to, or perhaps moths to catch with those big hands of hers.

The hand-sized moths are everywhere in their swarms, and with so much free food being handed out for being and insect alike, it's hard to keep either from clustering into groups. The particular specimen that Flora's managed to corner is a bright green on the abdomen, with golden curved patterns on its wings - it twitches its feathery antennae as the tigress approaches, although it doesn't move.

Elsewhere, beings certainly are enjoying themselves. Those who haven't had the means to bring their own dishes of honeyed or sugared water have them passed out by the sponsoring nobles, and there's the occasional yelp as someone foolishly handles one of the normally docile bugs too roughly and is rewarded with a mild electric shock.

One can either go to the bugs, like Cedric is, or wait for them to come like Ammy is doing, being rewarded with a couple of blue-pattered insects sipping fron her bowl. To one side, it would appear that one of the organisers - a Blackback - is holding a contest for the most beautiful insect, with great prizes to be won - with the caveat that the winning moth be freed at the end.

Another tailflick, while Flora continues moving towards the big, simply moving to watch the bug and setting herself down besides it. Or rather, she parks her new golem there, simply silently peering at the bug and pulling up a bowl of sugar-water that was still un-claimed by any of the other bugs. She carefully dips her finger into the water, offering the soaked digit to the moth, should it choose to accept. And right now, even though she notes all the other people present, she seems to be absorbed in her current actions.

Lina hears the contest, and tries to pick what she feels is the prettiest moth, before she attempts to pick it up and bring it straight to the blackback.

Cedric hasn't left the encampment of tents just yet. He notices the tent where dishes of sweetened water are being handed out and queues himself up for a bowl. It'd certainly be a big help in attracting the moths close enough for him to gently scoop them up with the net. After recieving a complimentary bowl (and struggling just a bit to hold it with all his other gear, finally settling on keeping it inside the cage) he moves closer to the treeline, noticing one of the figures sitting there as the frail woman from last night, Amaterasu he thinks her name was? The badger heads down the slight decline of a hill to set his gear down nearby, pulling the bowl of water from the cage and setting it down in front of himself, cage to one side and net to the other. He settles down onto the grass, folding his legs and waves to the woman. "G'morning. It okay if I sit down here?" he asks quietly, nevermind the fact that he's already sitting down.

Jendayi strokes her chin at the knowledge of this contest and decides aloud, "I shall acquire the prettiest bug!" She nods confidently and gets a bowl of sugar water, sniffing at it contemplatively. She looks around briefly, then carries it towards Cedric and Amaterasu, settling near the two and nodding in greeting towards them, human visage smiling broadly. "Hello, small friends. Come to play with the bugs, yes?" She sets her twirligig down next to her, letting it wobble about amusingly while the sphinx herself stays as still as possible with the bowl in her hands, held out in front of her like an offering. For now, she waits.

Amaterasu shifts softly her attention broken from the pretty insects in front of her "I do not own this field. You have as much right to sit here as I do." it was a little hard, but that was basically her way to say 'yes, you can sit here.' when a bit preoccupied. Leaning forward slowly, she dipped her finger in the bowl the moths were enjoying, leaning back a bit and waiting. "Looking to keep one for yourself?" she asks with a curious side-glance.
