She chuckles softly and looks back to the inquisitive ones and taps her chin. "As for that... Well, there's lots of blades! For different things. Long swords and such are good, versatile weapons, like shortswords. Both are a solid choice. Curved blades," She says, tapping the hilt of the one sheathed at her side, "Are amazing for slashing. They cut clean and leave nasty wounds, but they're less effective against solid armours. Which brings me to my next point! Sharpness. Sharp blades are great at cutting, obviously, but the sharper it is, the easier it is to nick the fine blade. Likewise, the more dull a blade is the less prone it is to damage, but it sacrifices cutting power. At which point you want to look into the weight of the weapon. If it's light, go for something sharper. If it's heavy, go for something a little less sharp, as the weight will help make up for the less-fine edge." She takes a moment to catch her breath, flashing another grin to Rainer. "Now! If you want shields you've got to ask what kind of fighter you are. Shields provide a defense, but they occupy a hand that could be used for two handing your weapon, which gives you more control and power in your swings. So it depends on how confident you are in your armour and in your ability to not get hit. In perperation for more then just a few would be adventurers the exercise was being hold out in an open field on the outskirts of Firmament. Dummies had been set up, tables constructed holding multiple wooden impliments, while the area was divided into three sections for the different training courses today.

Angus himself was standing in front of what looked to be a few militia recruits, arms crossed as he asks them if everything was prepared, waiting to see who would show up.

Bite sways and stretchehs as she arrives late to her teaching position, a smile and grin on her face. "SO sssweetie you need me to teach offensive magics, let's see who I'm actually teaching this to! I can teach children at the orphanage how to make dirt problems for their caretakers I can teach some 'would be' adventurers!"

Valor had FINALLY gotten that damn dye out of his coat and was back in public! Now he approached where Bite was teaching, a few books of magic tucked into his bag. He'd been studying for a while but never practiced it so he wanted to learn from a better teacher. As he approaches he introduces himself, tipping his wide brimmed hat and being polite to Miss Bite. "I heard you were the one teaching offensive magic."

Rainer is dressed to the nines in Lightbringer regalia today, and he doesn't look particularly happy about it as he sulks in Angus' general direction. "What was wrong with my normal outfit! People ought to recognize me by reputation alone, anyway." He tugs at his sleeves and fusses with his badge, huffing. "No one's going to pay attention to my dashing good looks with all these bangles and doodads hanging off me. I'll just have to make sure they remember me by name."

Hartford stumps onto the field, excited for a bit of training away from the manor house. He adjusts his House Blackback Tabard and rubs an antler nervously. He's not really sure where to go here.

Cassidy slinks up aside Angus, dressed in her still-oversized black scaled robe, though her mask and hood are down. She even has her lightbringer badge on her person today! "Hello, Angus. What's all this? Hosting a training session, huh?" She peers around, surveying the area before smiling. "I like that idea!"

Unaffiliated with any official military unit, a very lightly armored badger in not much else but a white cloth tunic, tan pants and boots enters the training area, hefting a long spear over his left shoulder as he makes his way to the front, pushing quietly past a few of the trainees. He doesn't seem like he's come to learn anything, and his dress and weapon make it unclear as to what his skillset might be. He lifts a hand in greeting to the others.

A mumble, a flick of Flora's tails as she slinks into the area, silently observing the happenings and not seeming all-too-dressed for combat... In fact, she seems to be wearing her high-class clothing, and it soon becomes apparent she prefers sticking to the sidelines.

As beings started to arrive Angus looks up and gives them a nod of greeting before sending the milita scattering to their posts. "Good evening everyone, and welcome to what I hope will be a recurring training session. Today we will be focusing on unarmed combat, melee combat, and Offensive magics. For your teachers we have Rainer, Bite, and myself teaching what we respectfully know. So whenever you are ready please head to the designated areas in front of your instructers." With that angus moves off to stand over at his location.

each area was easily marked and noticable, over near Bite there were a line of Dummies standing at attention for those wanting to practic magic, while over near Rainer was a table stocked with wooden blades and dummies to attack. While over at Angus' station there was just a ring etched into the dirt.

Bite awaits all of her recruits, before she smiles and says "Alright! We'll start with what I started with, fire is the easiest magic to weaponize. Fire hurts, it is also the most dangerous so be sure you have a firm grasp of how to select controled enviroments for your offensive before you employ it. Don't light a golem on fire while it's holding your friend, that is a no no. Observe!" she hisses before she turns around and starts to read out a well written and practiced spell.

Rainer jolts to alertness from unbuttoning his jacket when his name is announced, putting on a big ol', friendly ol' smile and waving to the assembled crowd, and begins beckoning to draw folks over as everyone starts squaring off with the field they've come to train in. "Right this way. You might think you know everything there is to know about armed combat, but let me ask you THIS! Did you know that an sharp blade has a thousand uses and counting? That's Adventurer Rule number Eight!"

Hartford grins and tramps heavily over to where Angus waits, carefully discarding his House-issue weaponry. "Hullo, Lord Solacious," he says in his slow, deep voice, "Mind if I work with you a bit today?" The big stag removes his beloved tabard and folds it carefully before setting it with his other equipment. "Don't want to get my uniform dirty," he says, standing to show his bare, skunk patterned torso.

Cassidy eyes Angus over and flashes a grin. "What're you teaching, then, Angus?" She peers at the ring and raises her brow. "Because that looks rather like a sparring ring, if I'm not mistaken. I might have to go a round with you later. See if my cousin has been slacking off lately." But as it seems Hartford was stepping up first, she looks around and approaches Rainer, folding her hands behind her back as she watches and listens.

Cedric starts to ponder why it was he even came down here today, and for now, just stands off to the side to watch as he leans back against a wall for the time being.

A soft mumble, a tailflick as Flora moves over to Cedric's spot, silently looking. "Flora... Flora isn't sure why Flora's here, actually. Flora just kindof wandered around," she mumbles after a moment of hesitation, silently observing everyone.

Angus chuckles a bit as he looks up at Hartford, giving him a tip of his hat. "Yes you may, you wish to learn a little bit about unarmed combat then?" He asks before switching his gaze to Cassidy. "If you wish well, then you can be next after I see what Hartford can do."

As the training gets underway stations are set up near the training areas just in case someone gets hurt, maned by either a volunteer or another being of the militia trained in medical skills, fireblossom tea would also be offered to any who asked.

Rainer fixes Cassidy with a big, toothy grin. "Got your attention, eh? How about this!" He draws one of his own two swords, driving the blade into the soil that it can stand upright on its own... and then he leans over, planting his elbow atop the hilt. And there he stands, brandishing that "aren't I clever" smile at the vixen, until he then begins gesturing back and forth between himself and his hilt-propped elbow with his free hand, to make certain what he's demonstrating is really getting driven home. "Eh? Eh? Pretty clever, right?"

Hartford lays his ears back in embarassment at the attention. "I'm not real good at hand to hand, Sir," he admits, "They don't really teach much of that to us guards, but I'll do my best!" The skunk-striped deer finds a spot in the fighting ring and takes up some kind of boxing pose.

Cassidy raises her brow, a smirk crossing her face as she draws her own blade, tossing it up in the air in an ark, letting the dazzling purple blade flash and gleam in the sunlight before it comes down and she catches it in her left hand. Two can play that game! "Also good for entertainment."

Cedric sets his spear against the wall, looking over to the tigress and nodding for a moment. "I'm not sure, myself. Seems like it could be fun to watch." he says, glancing over towards the combatants. Though, come to think of it, he could probably use a bit of practice with hand-to-hand combat. "Ah, excuse me." The badger says to Flora, wandering over to Angus and the slightly-familiar cervine being he's seen around a few times before. "So... this would be unarmed combat then?" cedric asks, glancing between the others.

Flora is mostly just looking aruond, nodding faintly and simply as she watches everyone... She has... Well, absolutely nothing to do or say here, so far. Most of what she's good at is guns, combat-wise.

"Flora supposes Flora will simply sit and watch, yes."

Bite watches the fires burn for a time with a smile before she turns to the others and says "And while this isn't a defensive class, it's good to know how to control your offensive." she hisses before working some water magic to focus out the fires. "So I waant each of you to try and light one of the dummies, with fire magic. We'll work on other things later." she hisses with a nod and a smile.

All goes well so far, Bite's students work on trying to set the dummies alight, two actually manage it. And over in Rainer's spot a Squirrel raises her hand and waves, trying to get Rainers attention as it seems she has a question.

Angus eyes Hartfords stance, giving him a smile as he walks to the other side of the ring. "Alright well, lets see what you can do, try coming at me and see if you can land a punch."

Bite smiles. "Now! Put them out. With magic, or wit hthe water. Try and see what you ucan do with magic andn then go ahead and put it out manually if you can't. To those of you who didn't get anywhere with fire magic, it's okay, it takes practice. Let's try a simple gust of wind, this can also be an effective magical offensive." she hisses and pulls out something from her bag, taking her time before acting on it.

Valor was generally shrugging with the magic. All of it. He attempts to perform the air magic and do the task set before him by Bite.

Hartford nods as Angus takes his place in the ring, then launches himself bodily at the fox, burly arms flashing out in a fast and vicious punch. He manages to catch the nobleman off guard and lands a solid punch to the solar plexus! The big guy stomps back to see what his opponent will do next.

Rainer's gaze follows the fennec's gleaming weapon up into the air and down again, and he's rather obviously struggling not to show just how impressed with the display he really is. "Y'know in Shalestra they got performers that actually swallow their swords? ...I'm, uh, not demonstrating that today." Straightening up, he yanks his sword from the ground and uses it to point straight at the squirrel with the raised hand ... and after a moment quirks his eyebrow, spreads that "I'm a genius" grin and starts gesturing back and forth between himself and his weapon again. "Uh, right. You! ...what's up?"

Cassidy looks at her oddly-curved sword and snickers. "I'm not sure if I want to try swallowing this one! Might be rather dangerous." She flips the weapon around and slides it back into its scabbard with a smile. "Nor any of my weapons, really... None of them are safe for swallowing!"

Cedric is just waiting near the ring where Angus and Hartford are currently sparring, waiting very patiently with arms folded across his chest for his own turn to fight someone. He watches the deer's opening punch, and waits to see how the fox will react to it.

The little squirrel falters, she didn't think she would actually be called out! "W-well, um....I was just wondering." She murmurs outloud as she tries to hunch down and become invisible. "How exactly....does that help in a fight?" She murmurs, the shy little thing sweating already.

over at the sparing circle Angus grunts as he takes the blow, dropping to his knees for a second as he sucks air back in before rolling back to his feet to throw a swift punch at Hartfords exposed ribs.

Bite watches her students attempt some flashy cutting winds, succeeding largely without any need for corrective influence. "I'm impressed, we might have some great mages in here with a bit of polish." she hisses before moving towards those who had the lowest output and giving constructive critisism.

Rainer's expression blanks. "Uhhh." He gives his head a quick shaking out and straightens up on his haunches, chest thrust out. "Well, yes, of course, I was getting to that. Obviously. 'Cuz... see... uh, anyone can swing a weapon around, right? That's the easy part! So what seperates yer run of the mill army recruit from a hero? Creativity!" He thrusts his fist into the air to emphasize his point. "If you want to make it big out there, y'gotta dare to be different!"

Hartford grunts and catches Angus's strike on his thick forearm. The fox had recovered quickly! The stag turns with the punch and lashes out with the opposite arm in a vicious backhand! His blow whistles through the air above Angus's head as the nimble fox avoids the wild attack!

Cassidy watches Rainer with an amused expression before looking towards the squirrel. "In more pragmatical terms. Be unpredictable. A predictable opponent is one that is easily bested. If you want to be successful at arms, you have to be able to open them up. Swinging against a shield is useless. Swing for the body, not their sword, but keep an eye on their weapon, as well, because they will be doing the same."

Cedric suddenly realizes a prior engagement he'd nearly forgotten about... something involving a strange new 'shirt', and excuses himself from the area, though not before collecting his stuff from where he left it. He gives a quick once-over to make sure he hasn't forgotten anything before heading towards the exit in a hurry. He'll have to make sure to come back another time, if there are more sessions.

At this the squirrel nods, smiling a little as her confidence grows just a bit. "But, what if they are using a spear?" She asks, curious as she notices Cedric walking off with his spear in hand. A few of the other pupils nod in turn, trying to think up some good questions. Over by Bite at least one of her students were struggling, a thin rod of a skunk who gives the snake a nervous smile as she approaches.

Angus narrowly ducks the blow, and grabs Hartfords arm as he calls for him to stop. "Very impressive! But you are missing a few things." He comments as he points out the deer was keeping his stance to tight, he needed to loosen up and not over exstend and leave himself open.

Rainer points at Cassidy as discretely as he can, with gaze angled down, speaking much softer. "That's what I was getting at." Quick clearing of his throat and he perks right back up. "Then you use a sword! Sword trumps spear, and spear trumps axe, and axe trumps sword! That's the weapon triangle!" He traces a big ol' triangle in the air in front of himself, then puts his hands to his hips, smiling and looking back and forth across his audience. "Next question?"

Cassidy raises her brow. "Spears are a very versatile weapon. Quick to use, and their thrusting attacks give them a great reach. Try to flank them. Horizontal movements. Fortunately, spears can be fairly easily predicted, but the attacks can come relentlessly, with quick recovery time, depending on the wielding and the size of the spear." She rubs at her nose for a moment and glances over towards Angus again.

Once again the squirrel nods, commiting it to memory as she tries to think up more, before others speak up. "What is the best kind of blade? Is it better to use a sword and shield?" They assault both Cassidy and Rainer with questions, curiousity getting the better of them.

Rainer finds this point contentious, however! "What-what? No. Wait. Hang on." Various flailing gestures are made in an effort to stem the tide of questions. "Spears are simple! All you gotta do is cut off the blade. I mean what're they gonna do with a blunt stick? Besides they'll probably be so scared of how badass you are after that they'll just drop their pants and run!"

Satisfied with those answers the group of fresh faces nod, unable to think of more questions for them.
