Another uncertain evening in the shanties, the time when more law-abiding beings have tightly shuttered themselves in but more nefarious individuals have yet to get started on their daily business. Near the outskirts of the shanties, a few beings are gathered, perhaps more than what would normally be expected and all bearing weapons. They seem...too fit and organised.
And organised they should be, because the heist was planned two days ago, with everyone briefed then. A den of vice...about to be raided, and the plainclothes guard begins falling into place, ringing a certain building.
The doctor said rest and relaxation until the wound healed, but did they really expect the fox to sit out while something like this happened? Angus looks over the meany guards getting ready to raid the den of vice, preparing himself to help as best he can. Just because he was disobeying the doctor doesn't mean he won't be cautious as he replaced his Rapier with a razor sharp dagger, he was going to rely more on the pistol at his side and the musket at his back for this fight to keep himself out of harms way. "So, everyone ready?" He asks, running his fingers along the brim of his hat a little nervously.
Zuika wanders up into the area, her tails swaying softly behind her as she nears. She looks up at the buildings around her before nodding to Angus on approach. She glances to the others nearby a moment before she adjusts her clothing a bit, to better fit in case of having to prepare for any ambushes
Not being the fondest of shanty town, the rabbit made her way rather carefully through the area, not that she had anything to worry about personally. Remembering the briefing, she slowly grouped up with the others that had gathered, giving a nod to most and a smile to the fox. "Ahh, it's a pleasure to see you all again. Dio, Lord Solacious...", pausing for a moment, she looked the new fox over a second, "Person, I've never met before.".
Another wonderful day in Shanty town. At least, wonderful in that Shanty Town way. Dio looks over his equipment by unstrapping the buckler from his back, securing it upon his arm while unsheathing his sword with that harmonious metallic sound. Shield test. The lion slaps his shield with his sword and nods. Shield works. "Ready as I'll ever be, lad. Maybe they finally found a bullet big enough to finally put me down fer good. Never know 'til we jump in," he says, nodding to everyone else.
Slowly, the plainclothes guards tighten the noose about the building - a few of the locals, sensing something with those senses that only living for one's whole lives in the shanties will grant, scurry off before the trap is sprung.
The building in question is a large hovel, with all the windows sealed and a single open door through which the occasional being can be seen stumbling in or out. As was stated in the briefing, a back door lies to the opposite end of the hovel, but is tightly barred for now. Most of the operations are underground, anyway - why waste good Ebon smoke when it can be recycled? Just enough ventilation to not kill anyone, but not enough to waste good smoke...
The plainclothes guardsmen are nearly in place now, awaiting the signal from their commanding officer - Angus, that is - to move in.
Angus looking over those present the fox nods, unbuttoning the scabbard of his dagger so that he could pull it easier as he draws his pistol and clicks back both hammers. "Alright." Turning to the officer he smiles. "I want the noose as tight as possible, I want as many of these beings alive for interrogation." Turning he notices Dio's shield, and his smirk gets a little sharper. "We have no idea what we will face in there, or how tight the tunnels are underneath the building. So here is the plan.. Dio, Zuika, Tzerya and myself will be the first ones inside. We clear the building one room at a time, as we continue onwards I want a few of the guard trailing us to either provide support or to cart off beings into custody." Turning back to Dio he looks at the Lion. "Dio, would you and your shield mind going first, I'll be right behind you with Tzerya following, while Zuika brings up the rear. I don't want anyone getting hurt if it's possible."
Zuika's ears twitch as she looks to the bunny referring to her as she had, and nods a bit " Hello to you, too. Bunny I never met." she smiles a bit, before turning to Angus as he speaks, tilting her head a moment before nodding " Alright. I'll do what I can.. I've not.. Done much such as this, but I'm certain I can do a bit at least."
Tzerya chuckles at Dio, "Maybe they have a rhino-cannonball loaded for ya.", snickering still as her ears wiggled, turning to the silver fox again, "I'm Tzerya by the way.". Covering her nose with a small sneeze, "Ohh, joy...", as her nose twitched a bit more, she kept her gaze fixed on their leader for the time, Angus. Once his orders were issued, she gave a firm nod and smirked, "Ohh, I think we'll be fine. Might be tight, but I'm more than used to tight tunnels.", a small wiggle from the puffball of a tail, Tzerya prepared herself for the breach.
"I though ya might suggest somethin' like that, Fox-kit," Dio comments at Angus, smiling a bit. Strangely enough, the lion takes off his buckler and straps it upon his back once more. "So I 'ad this brought along..." Calling for one of the guards, he shortly comes over to him and hands a large tower shield. Very large, considering what mass it needs to cover. A wall of iron, perfect for the defending lion. Heaving it out in front of him, he takes a position near the door and prepares to take the lead. "'ad it made just in case. On yer signal, fox-kit. Then ya owe me a drink."
Selena falls in with the rest of the group, the wolfess taking some small bits of debris from her clothes. "...I heard something about a group of 'official looking types' around here I don't suppose you've seen them?" she asks with a smirk, giving a half-wave to the collection of beings. Well, they look more official than anyone else around...
Finally, the trap is set. Everyone's in position now, with arms drawn, and the local prostitutes, street toughs and gang members that are attracted by the Ebon den and its clientele have long since fled, sensing danger.
But at least the cordon is tight, and there isn't going to be anyone running through the living barricade, not with all these shields up and out. The moment Dio approaches the door, though, it slams shut in his face, and there's the scuffling of furniture being moved behind it...
Dio takes a large breath, holds it for a few moments, and slowly exhales before looking over everyone in the group. They would be watching over his back, after all. With a nod to Selena and the others, the lion takes a few steps back and holds his tower shield steadily in front of him before taking off in a hefty sprint, colliding into the door and stumbling over a few poor beings that happened to be in the way. "'cuse me!" Shield still firm, he regains his balance and awaits for his teammates to file in behind his shield so he can move forward.
Angus is right behind Dio as the door breaks down, and he shouts in a commanding voice. "Drop your weapons now!" He notices Dio stumble over something, another being trying to barricade the door that didn't manage to get out of the way in time. their devotion to trying to keep them out was admirable, and the nearest one is rewarded for his efforts with the foxes boot to the muzzle. Trying to take out one of the beings from the equation, to try and turn the odds in their favor.
Zuika's ears fold back as she ducks in behind Angus, careful to stay her distance mostly, her hands clenched tightly as she readies a small dagger from her side, holding it carefully out
Tzerya Watches as Dio gets closer to the door, hearing the shuffling as she lets out a long sigh and taps her foot a few times. Drooping her right ear as lion made his way through, she followed closely behind Angus and Dio, namely his shield, surveying the area, making a few notes of things she could use as weapons as Angus kicked the one in the head, "Hmm, nicer than I would have done.". Staying on point, she draw her bow and knocked an arrow for the time, "I'd listen to him. Drop your weapons, lay down and prepare for law....And trust me, you don't wanna be the person killed with arrow while inside and I'm a great shot."
Selena shakes her head as the group moves in, glancing back down at the unfortunate being that was whacked with Angus's boot. Pursing her lips, she moves on - stepping around the poor being. "I'd rather not hurt the victims any more, Angus." She says to the fox, looking over the being quickly, remaining behind most of the group.
Angus' orders are quickly followed, guardsmen surging in through the breach after them. Most of the hired muscle, being just that and having little to no skin in the game, drop their weapons and surrender once they realise they're hopelessly outnumbered - no sense in dying for someone else's property, right? Those who are rounded up in the small entrance room are sent back outside to be taken into custody, but the bulk of the place is actually underground - the hovel's space aboveground is mostly for housing the hired muscle. Several boxes are filled with the den's daily takings, and those are confiscated as well, amounting to a goodly sum.
The rest of the ebon den lies underground via a crude wooden staircase reaching into the darkness. The scent of drug-filled smoke is practically overpowering, and wafts up from the staircase to everyone.
Selena moves over to the staircase before almost immediately recoiling back, hand over her nose - aparrently having not expected quite that much smoke to be lingering around it. A moment later and she conjures a cloud of thick fog in the tunnel, the sounds of dripping water on the ground starting shortly thereafter - fog and mist tend to have that effect on smoke. "Right... There's the smoke dealt with." She replies with a cough and grumble.
Angus turns back to look at the being he downed. "Sorry Selena, got a little carried away." He watches as the rest of the hired muscle is carted out as the plan works so far. But as soon as he hears the sound of water dripping he flashes Selena a smile. "Well, that should help a little. Everyone ready or do we need a second to breath?" He asks as he looks around and draws his Dagger in his right hand.
Zuika nods to Angus " I'm as ready as I can be. As I am as is, anyway. We'll have to watch for ambush and traps, I think.. They may be littered about here, after all. Best safe than sorry. Or let the lion plow through them all."
Watching the show of magically power from Selena, the rabbit gave a light nod, having seen her skill before and while not surprised, still very pleased they wouldn't be trying to compensate for the drug addled smoke. Slipping the arrow back into her quiver and the bow around her shoulder, she strolled over to a turned over chair before breaking off a leg. "There, this'll be far less lethal than an arrow or my magic.", rejoining the others, she gave a firm nod. "I'm ready.". Looking to Zuika for a moment, her ears perked and she smirked before looking at everyone, "I'm not bad with traps, anyone think they're better or just want Dio to crush everything?"
"Nice job with the smoke lass!" Dio exclaims as the wolfess does her work. There could be some traps down there... Or there could not be. There's only one way to find out, but many smarter ways to do so. The lion seems to decide on the non-smart way. "It'll be fine! Come on lads! I'll lead the charge." With a bang on his shield and a small roar to get himself pumped up, Dio heads down the stairs with the shield covering himself.
Belowground, things are almost just as bad as they are aboveground. The once-lavish - for the shanties, anyway - interior of the drug den is now quite ruined, a number of the glimmering blue and red lanterns about having been doused, only a few remaining to cast their dull light upon the underground room. Patrons lie about beside still burning bongs and hookahs, dazed, dripping, or cleanly passed out on their mats. Folding screens allowed some of the more discerning patrons some privacy, but that's shattered now with the guard tumbling in ahead behind the party.
The patrons are mostly poorly dressed, but surprisingly, there're a couple who look like they might have been from the middle class and travelled out here from Firmament proper. Save for those serving out the drug, there aren't that many coherent beings around - everyone else is too addled to put up much resistance. Even after Selena's cleansing mist has scoured the area, the smell of Ebon hangs heavy in the air - it's likely that it's practically ingrained into the floor and walls by now.
Seeing little recourse, the beings running the den's interior pick up weapons and make ready. Seems like they're not going quietly, outnumbered as they are.
The fight is quick, the outcome inevitable. Most of the patrons don't even stir at the clash of swords, and those who do aren't quite quick enough to get away on their own power, having to be dragged out by the guards. Eventually, bruised and battered, the den operators surrender as well and are taken into custody, dragged up the stairs with their customers.
The drun den's interior is now quite a mess, with mats and equipment strewn everywhere, but a passageway leads further into the back. Seems like that's probably where they keep their stock...
Zuika looks towards the entryway and slowly approaches it, tilting her head slowly " Whats down there, you think? Likely cant be all there was here.."
Charges into battle behind Dio and Angus, using her crude club to subdue the enemies until it breaks as she moves into a combat stance. Striking an enforcer several times, she kicks a piece of their equipment into the air, then continues with a strong knee. Catching the item as it comes back down, she brings it hard upon their head, smirking as they crumble to the ground. Spending a momen to look around the area, her expertise in finding things hard to find comes through. Once finished, she turns to Angus with a grin, "Let's move on."
Angus tried to keep his attacks as none lethal as possible, keeping his shots away from anything vital as he uses the grip of his dagger to reinforce his punches instead of its cutting edge. With the threat dispatched he looks around and frowns. "Clear out the wounded first and confiscate all weapons, I want a few guards stationed here so our new friends don't get any ideas about trying to fight again." He frowns at the carnage before holstering his now empty pistol to switch his dagger over into his left hand. "Alright, we are almost out of here. When we get back drinks are on me." He smiles to all before he moves up near the passageway and the smile vanishes.
Bonk! Bash! The tower shield collides with heafty force upon the poor fellows who just couldn't get out of the way in time. Blunt force to knock people into the next week, where they'll find themselves behind a trust row of bars and maybe a nice cot to wake-up on. "Bet the boss 'as somethin' good on 'em. If it ain' physical, perhaps a good interview might yield somethin' interestin'," he says, looking at the new door and taking a small moment to relax his shoulders. This thing was heavy! "Alright lads, I'll lead the way again." Shield at front and center, the lion makes his way for back and waits for the others.
Selena keeps back behind the more heavily-armored comrades, assisting with spells - a bit of air magic, some water and earth; it's what she does best after all. That done, she moves back over the room, leaving no stone unturned as she looks over the contents thereof. Dio's call to move forwards elicits a quiet sigh before she lays her current subject of examination down before moving along. "Well, it was worth checking." she mutters.
The last of the den's patrons are taken upstairs and into custody, and the party moves along into the recesses of the back room. There, indeed, lies the den's stockpile of product - sacks upon sacks of moderate-quality ebon lying on each other, stacked from floor to ceiling. A couple of tables have been shoved together to form a crude workbench of sorts, at which it's clear the drug has been cut with something of the other before being served out up front, perhaps to stretch it thinner. The whole setup looks a bit like an alchemist's worklab, only far less glamorous - and a lot more noxious.
Selena files into the room slowly, glancing over the huge amounts of contraband squirreled away into the room - and for a moment musing; "I wonder how many people know about the caves under Firmament..?" THe thought's dismissed in favor of the alchemical setup, the wolfess taking care not to touch the apparatus before pointing to one particular phial. "Don't mess with that; don't so much as touch it unless you have gloves on. I don't have any idea what kind of idiot would have heartfire in an ebon lab, but I'm not going to be responsible for someone getting themselves killed if it's handled improperly." she announces, taking a good few moments to scrutinize the rest of the apparatus again for good measure.
Angus looks around at all the ebon and whistles. "Well, seems like an intresting haul..." He sheaths his dagger as he searches around for possible hidden spots, but stops at the mention of heartfire. "That's...a little worrysome, They better not of been lacing their products with it or we are going to have a lot of bodies..."
Zuika grunts, covering her muzzle as the smell grows upon her, choking upon it a bit before shaking her head " Ngph... This is horrible... Who'd have thought this would ever be here?... And why would anyone put themselves through this wretched stuff?"
Seems incredibly curious as the enter, her instincts kicking up as she begins to look around again, about to move a few things in her inspection as she hears Selena, "Uhh, good to know. Best to just leave things be". Leaving the busy work to the guards, takes a casual yawn. "Well, I suppose we'll need to do some question in the very near future, maybe save a few.". Looking at Zuika with her ears drooped, Tzerya gave a light shrug before sneezing, "Some people must just like the stuff?".
What is all this stuff? Some vials, some other things... Best not to touch. His part of the job is quite complete by this point. "Well," he says, finally resting the bottom of his shield on the ground with a metallic CLANG. "I'll leave all that stuff up to ya scholarly types an' all that. Random vials an' I don't mix an' all that." The lion straps his shield upon his back with a bit of effort and breathes in deep for the long walk ahead with this giant piece of metal. "A good mission all around."
