An up and coming mathemagician of the university has invited all to come and see his grand experiment. As it turns, he only got a few people. He isn't that popular yet. Undaunted, the goat with an Adapatable Folk seal at his shoulder proudly rambles about how he'll be able to clean the elemental taint from the mines, making it safer to work in, and banishing those awful shale elementals.

Zevran enters the laboratory, drawn by his curiosity about the grand experiment. He wondered what sort of divine math would be able to banish the shale elementals, and looked forward to finding out what the mathemagician had to say.

Sveta's taken a small rejoinder from the journeymens' workbenches at the craft school to take in the spectacle - it's always important to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field, after all. The goshawk's cleaned up a little from her usual soot-speckled self, and settles in amongst the handful of spectators that's gathered.

Walden the armadillo was all too happy to come, especially given his increased focus on studying magic lately. After all, this is certainly an issue of importance to those who favor earth magic. He listens to the rambling lecture with arms crossed, taking in what he can, though the puzzled expression on his face seems to suggest skepticism. "Not sure about this," he murmurs quietly.

The goat has filled a black board with chalk, producing a great many divine maths to be studied by those present, "And that's why I feel," he says, making a final mark, "That we can rid ourselves of this chronic problem." He strikes the board with the end of the chalk, and it makes a new line as he swings about to face the audience. Surely the line is not intended to be part of the equation, but the magic seems to care very little about intent, as the blackboard begins to glimmer and waver lightly as he speaks.

Rainer must have been misinformed that there'd be refreshments, because he Certainly Wasn't Lost and he Definantly wasn`t poking around inside the halls of the academy just for exploration`s sake. As it is, he`s tucked himself as much out of the way as the setting permits him, thumbs tucked into the waistband of his baggy, earthen pants as he gawks in uncomprehending silence. Well, he at least gets the gist of what the presentation is about, because he utters to himself in a respectfully hushed tone, `Why`d you want to make it safer when the danger`s half the fun.`

Zevran looks towards the divine math on the board, but most of it is pure gibberish to him. He moves to a spot near Walden as the goat draws a line across the board. "I may not understand much of the math he is using, but is it supposed to be glowing like that?" Zevran softly asks Walden, believing that the armadillo might be better at interpreting the math than him.

Sveta considers the chalkboard. Some of it is understandable to her, but the rest makes her wish she had a few of her references on hand at the moment. And surely that line isn't supposed to be there, is it? Sure, she might not have left the Crafter's School, but any experienced mage worth their equations would know better to treat their Kevinscopes with such carelessness...

Walden frowns his disapproval at the sight of the blackboard. "Mmm... no," he tells the familiar Zevran. "No, it's most certainly not supposed to be doing that at this point." The armadillo points at the blackboard and calls out to the goat mathemagician, "Sir, check your board! Your stray mark is disrupting the equation!" Merely the act of calling this out, however, makes the mild-mannered armadillo squirm uncomfortably just knowing that he's likely drawn some attention to himself.

The board suddenly lurches upwards, the ends coming downwards into crude hands. Its stands swell into strange gangly legs and it exhales plumes of chalk dust as it swats the still rambling goat out of the way, sending him sliding along the smooth floor with a surprised bleat.

Laughter is the grey wolf's initial reaction, though he quickly claps a hand over his muzzle and endeavours to muffle the bulk of it. Rainer starts to settle when he realizes he's pretty much alone in seeing the spectacle as comedy, and he starts eyeing the chalkboardemon up and down like it might just need to be taken seriously.

Zevran smirks as the board turns into a monster. "Finally, something I can understand." He says, drawing the large blade from his back and pointing it towards the blackboard.

Sveta notices a rhino in the audience stepping up to the newly animated...well, one could technically call it a golem or automaton, except the thing that was formerly the chalkboard is a bit too ungainly in her eyes to deserve that title. Still, with the rhino being a body-block for the monster, she sprints over to the surprised goat, gets a hold under his shoulders, and drags him away from the impending fight.

Walden stares wide-eyed at the, uh... "...Shale elemental. From a chalkboard. Z-Zevran!" the armadillo gasps, and he looks completely relieved when the rhino draws his sword. The armadillo is quick to rummage into his backpack and pull out his medical kit. Seems he'll likely be defending himself with a staff he carries. "Oh, I hope he's okay. But this thing's got to be stopped."

After an intense battle, the chalkboard, amazingly resilient, is beaten back. With a great cracking sound, it breaks clean in half and falls to the floor in a sad cloud of chalk dust. The goat picks himself off the floor, clearing his throat, "Ah, yes. And that's how the shale elementals were created."

Rainer is clearly doing his utmost to look dramatic as he sheaths his flimsy old blade. Flashing his pearly whites, he turns from the vanquished furniture, closes his eyes, and angles his nose up, huffing a breath through his nose. "And that's how they were beaten!"

Zevran places the large blade pack into the sheathe on his back. "Heh, that was more fun than the entire lecture." He whispers to Walden. He gives the dramatic wolf a glance, chuckling at his antics. He glances toward the goat, snorting lightly in annoyance.

Sveta scowls furiously, a twitch entering her eye. She turns her gaze between Rainer and the goat, clearly unable to decide which of the two to reproach first. Eventually she settles for the former, her feathers clearly getting more than a little ruffled, her voice just below a screech as she directs it at the wolf. "Are you mad? Insane? How can you be so flippant about this? It took five of us soulless to take this thing down - what if it'd slipped past us and gotten out? Can you see this thing in the marketplace? What if someone had gotten hurt? Does everyone intend to just laugh this off and learn nothing from it?"

The lecturer dusts himself off lightly, "Everyone is alright, Creators allowing? My apologies, but I will have to resume this lecture at another time." he demures just before Sveta begins chastising him, "Progress is risk, madame. Fortunately, the situation is handled for the moment, barring the price of a new chalk board."

Walden props his staff down against the floor and leans on it, taking a moment to relax following the destruction of the Education Elemental. (At least that's what he'll be nicknaming it.) "If you say so, Zevran. Personally, I really liked the lecture. Just..." He clears his throat and says to the goat, "Unfortunately, I think we've revealed a potential flaw in your equation, but at the same time I feel we may have learned something. Personally, I'd like to see this succeed."

Rainer recoils from Sveta, losing that whole air of swashbuckling badarsery he was going for there. He stammers, trying and failing to get a word in after each question and getting cut off by the next. By the end his tail is thoroughly tucked and his ears drooped

he barely manages to stutter out, "In... fairness, you probably could have handled that all by yourself. The way you were tossing spells around, that was really impressive!" And then he turns a sheepish, hopeful grin on her. Let's see if the godess of charisma is smiling on him today.

Zevran glares at the lecturer as he makes a comment about the only loss being the blackboard. "Barring the price of a few teeth as well if I do not hear an apology for the people you put at risk with your ineptness." Zevran growls, his hand curling into a fist. He seems to have taken offense to the lecturer's apparent disregard for the safety of his observers.

Sveta groans softly and rubs at her face, the initial force of her blowup spend. At least the armadillo is making sense. "Oh, I'd like to see this succeed, too," she says to Walden. "Who wouldn't? As our friend the lecturer said, progress is risk, but keeping it to a minimum should be self-evident. Take all the stupid risks you want, just don't let others have to shoulder the consequences along with you." Turning to Rainer, she clicks her beak and dusts off the worst of the chalk dust from her feathers. "No, I couldn't, and don't lie about it, please - flattery won't get you anywhere. Look here, maybe I was too strong in making my point, but this was a serious issue. It's why students at both the academy and the artistans' school are supervised until they can be trusted to know what they're doing. If we'd failed here, the city guard would probably have to be called in, and who knows what would've happened before they arrived? It's not a laughing matter, by any stretch of the imagination."

He lifts his shoulders, "Such transformative math usually requires great power, most often in the form of lunar dust, to fully actualize. I must go now, there is more study to be done." He bows once more, "Creators watch over, thank you for coming." And off he goes, leaving the mess behind.

Walden bites his lip nervously as he listens to Sveta; the tension is making him extremely uncomfortable given the way he backs away. "R-right, right. Well... it is a good thing we were here to help out, at the very least. Let's be grateful for that rather than focus on the negatives."

She calmed down, that's a success in his books! That it had little to nothing to do with his compliment is a minor technicality~ Rainer attempts to salvage his remaining pride, rolling his right shoulder several times until it emits a crackling pop that seems to satisfy him. "Then let's just-" The wolf faulters to a stop as their muttony host simply shrugs the whole thing off and leaves, then pointing at Walden, "What he said."

Zevran tenses up as the goat seems to brush him off and leaves. He would remember what the goat looked like, and any future meetings would not begin well. Seeing that everyone else was starting to calm down, he lets out a slow, calming breath and nods his head in agreement with Walden.

"Right. Right. And mages can't imagine why people think they're all crazy. But I suppose that us being around did solve something. Still..." the goshawk's eye turns over the smashed board and chalk dust. "That can't stay here. There's got to be a janitor or someone in this place we can ask to have this removed, and maybe inform whoever's in charge as to how flippantly their faculty staff's behaving when it comes to the public. But thank the Creators it's over for now."

Walden gives Rainer a curious look as the wolf points at him. He blinks a couple times, looks down, and shrugs. "M-maybe so. I just... I don't think it's useful to throw blame around." The armadillo steps over to the mess to get a better look, and he shakes his head. "You're right," he tells Sveta. "I feel somewhat responsible for this, so I'll take care of it." He smiles happily, then he looks around, considering where to even begin in searching for a broom closet.

Rainer takes a handful of the fuzz lining his neck and tugs it left and right, as if he were straightening a shirt collar. "Well I'm sure you're better suited for that than me, so... I'll just, uh, show myself out! Maybe pop by the alchemy department and see if they haven't brewed up some slime monster potion or something, ha ha! ...Heh." And so he slinks towards the door. Quick-like.
