The woods seem to almost Mock Fenris as he tries to drag Glein from the cabin and what lies within, a Flurry of Cackles take flight from some of the taller trees. The temperature shifts, getting just a little colder as a breeze cuts through the village, stiring up debris and foilage as the rest of the party waits near the path further into the Swamps.

Fenris can only hope that the ransacked home and the grizzly scene within will remain untouched in their absence, but the missing, and possibly still living beings take precedence. "We'll be back in no time," he says brightly, moving to follow the swamp path.

"That's an odd thing to sound cheerful about, mister Fenris..." Corin says, looking over the scene, memorizing as much detail as possible. He looks thoughtful, but doesn't say anything on the subject for the time being.

With a disappointed sigh, Glein looked to Fenris, before giving the site a look over, to make sure it was perfectly recalled. One of the benefits of his photographic memory. Should they, of course, have to recreate the scene upon their return. Still, he makes sure to have his weapons at least loosened in their holders. No point seeing this job as 'friendly' any longer. Not if murder was on the menu. "Fine, we'll proceed." He says, walking to the rest of the group.

Millicent peeks into the room once she can. "... It kind of makes me uncomfortable," she comments, eyeing the body. "I wonder what he saw. Or knew." Because that was the conclusion she was jumping to after all she'd seen. Surely the poor guy must have becom privy to something shady in this town he shouldn't have. She stares a moment longer, then follows after, distinctly more on edge.

Pausing a moment, Glein steps into the cabin fully, and kneels by the body, gently opening one of the clenched hands, revealing a crumpled piece of paper. Taking it, Glein opened it carefully, to avoid undo damage.

The Paper itself isn't that old, partially bloodstained but mostly legible.

"Strangers are coming, I guess someone was smart enough to set up a notice for the freeswords. Be on your guard when they show, and lead them to the place. You know where, we'll deal with them quickly. Don't linger in the village for to long...something is out there, Father fears there may be other factions at play here"

whatever else is written is to obscured by blood, the torches flaring for a moment in the dark as a light is struck in the church.

Fenris makes his way down the swamp path, no longer concerned if the others are following, eyes moving carefully along the path ahead. Whatever it is that he was feeling here, it certainly wanted them to be somewhere, and he did not plan to disappoint. Another vivid ? appears on his cheek, this one a bright purple.

Corin follows Fenris into the swamp, apparently unwilling to let Fenris wander off by himself, and nudges the bigger-than-him cat, "You know this is a trap, right?" Corin says very quietly to Fenris, despite having not seen the note, "And we're fixing to spring it."

The bear cracks his knuckles in preparation and hefts his shotgun, "Hope lead works as well as ever on whatever we're walking into..."

"I think our first problem lies here in town actually." Glein says, standing up and stepping out of the cabin, holding the letter. "Someone doesn't want us here." He states, letting the freeswords read the letter, his gaze sliding over the homes of the village.

"Why do you say-" Millicent cuts off when she looks over the letter. "... Oh. So he didn't die because he knew too much. Someone killed him because he was... Part of the problem? Maybe?" She looks over the village again, scratching her head. "... Do you think the village is on our side, or against us? Assuming the... Whatever is hostile is out in the forests."

The party has split, pathes have divided. The trail itself is quiet, ringed in by murky waters that do not reveal their depth at a cursory glance. The Water reflects the light of the torches, throwing up murky shadows and twisted distortions as ripples reveal something moving just below the surface.

Back at the village nothing has changed dramatically, the village still remains quiet. The single light at the top of the church burning bright in the silence as a silhouette of the occupant is seen for but a moment before disappearing again.

Fenris nods at Corin's assessment. "Oh yes," he says happily, "Definitely a trap." The tiger seems awfully cheerful for someone walking along a path into the swamp, apparently unarmed. He reaches up to scratch nonchalantly at the thick ruff of fur peeking from his tight shirt. "Maybe some extra light could help," he offers, waving his finger and conjuring up three little balls of blue flame that skim out over the water.

"Help THEM, or US?" Corin asks peering over at the waters, "Because that's definitely letting them know exactly where we are..." Corin says, as though he's ANY kind of stealthy, "Not that I'm objecting to going in guns blazing, but..."

With a mind on the matter, Glein heads to the church. So far, it was the only place that was 'alive', so to speak. While it would be possible to go door to door, Glein had no intention of asking randomly. Especially if hte whole village was hostile. "Yes. I'm not sure for what he was killed for, but this village, while possibly with us, is also just as likely against us. We should speak no more of it in the open, lest they decide the pair of us are not worth the time or effort of ignoring anymore." He says, striding quietly and calmly to the church's doors.

Millicent follows along after Glein, always glancing over her shoulder. The fur on her neck was still standing on end. She had little mind for investigative things, so she lets the spider lead the way. "Right, right." Hopefully they were with them! "Hopefully..." She murmurs the part, peeking around Glein as they approach the church.

The church looms ahead, the only structure that actually looks a bit newer then the others, built more recently. One could almost say it was intact, if it werent for the doors looking as if they were splinted from within, gaping maws of splintered wood that barely resemble doors anymore. It's cleary that someone is indeed still there, a torch moving that is barely visible from the inside illuminating a sign strung across the front 'please knock'

The lights go unmolested for a bit, sweeping over the mirror like surface of the water to shine bright before there is a ripple in the surface, a quick movement and a violent churning of the water as a tendril of something under the surface lashes out at the offending light! Before crashing back down below the surface.

"See!" Fenris says brightly, as the attacked light blinks out of existance, "Look at everything we are learning!" The tiger does not conjure up a replacement for the lost weir light, but let's the other two continue to roam in wide circles. Then the big tiger starts to hum, softly to himself. It is an old folk tune about some sort of hunt or other. The lyrics don't spring readily to mind.
