It is fittingly foggy on the usually quiet mountain pass today. One can only see about 15 meters ahead and has to take care not to fall off a cliff or run into a boulder, or something more unpleasant. The quiet is broken only barely by the distant sound of pained moans and heavy steps that slowly approach from the north.
Amidst the fog is a feline carrying a sabre in her right hand. She can easily hear the moans from up ahead and she stays quiet. There's really no point in her saying anything. If no one else shows up, then she can just slowly back away from the hoard of the undead and pepper them. As she looks to the north, her tail moves slowly through the air. Apparently, she is the first one to show up for the call. Normally, she is late for these sorts of things, and hopefully it means that more will show up soon.
Fenris saunters up out of the mist, hands jammed deep into the pockets of his long coat. He was surprised to get the call on this one. "They never roam this far south," he says, peering into the fog, "The Bone Lady usually likes to keep them close." The tiger raises his hands and mutters a bit, moving in patterns that a practiced eye would recognize as a complicated Kevinscope until a wisp of fire blooms in the air and expands into the form of a large, feral feline of some kind. After he has summoned up his elemental, the Tiger relaxes a little, trying to feel out any possible Spirit influences. "I can't imagine that she would try to extend her power this way," he says, "Not now, at least."
Millicent slips forward with the others, hood tugged up against the fog. She's a bit more solemn than usual today, as she always is when it comes to matters of Mossy Stone. "Why are you so far from home, old friends," she mutters to herself, resting a hand on her sword.
The three freeswords manage to find each other despite the fog, but it does not look like anyone else is coming. With the fog and the echo from the mountains it is hard to say how many undead are approaching, but what is clear is that they are coming closer at a steady pace.
Cara sighs for a moment, "Great, just great. Apparently, we are the only ones who bothered to show up." Cara takes a few steps forward in the direction of where the moaning is coming from and she sheathes her sword. In her mind, she begins to concentrate and hopefully get the equations right. As she begins to calculate, her gauntlet wearing hands are covered in a slowly brightening red glow. As the information comes out, she brings her hands together and grits her teeth. If this works, then it could make things easier. Soon, the calculations are completed and she unleashes the spell in the direction of the moans.
Fenris urges his fiery, feline elemental forward into the fog, his ears perked up and scanning the dim area for the imminent attack. "What is she up to?" he mutters out loud, his hackles rising as he senses Pyrrha's will behind these shambling abominations. A vivid, green ? appears suddenly on the tiger's cheek. "Let's see if we can't shed a little light on this situation," he says, his eyes unfocusing a little as he sets into another series of motions, this time using water math to try and push back the concealing fog.
He gives a little nod of acknowledgement to Millicent. "You haven't heard any news about the stone lately, have you?" he asks as he works.
"Of course not. There's not exactly a town crier anymore," Millicent says, drawing her sword and taking a position in front of the magicians, waiting. "No news goes in or out. I'm not sure I'd want to hear it if there was."
Cara's fire spell lights up the fog around them and hits something, what it hit is uncertain until Fenris clears the fog around them a few moments later, revealing a huge, scorched boulder, and, further up the snake like path the front of the undead horde, a dozen of them is plainly visible, with more shapes lurking in the fog where it still hangs, impossible to count. The group of three, now with the fog cleared and just having started a major firework, certainly got their attention, as indicated by the lightly armored vanguard that is rushing down the street and towards them.
Cara sighs and turns toward the lightly armored vanguard in front of her. She pulls out her sabre this time, and quickly leaps to the side of her original position, "Well, I guess I'll just use it a second time then." She grits her teeth in a fuss and proceeds to use the same spell again. This time, aimed toward the vanguard rushing towards her. As the spell is quickly unleashed upon the charging vanguard, she glances towards Fenris, "Thanks again!" and proceeds to direct her attention towards the rest of the horde of zombies.
"Oh," Fenris says, blinking at the suddeny and worryingly visible horde bearing down on them, "That is not something I hoped to see today." The burly tiger does not rush to engage. Instead, he directs his fire elemental into the fray to hold the slavering undead back as he prepares some more magic of his own, calling blazing balls of flame down from the sky into the thick of the oncoming horde.
Millicent maintains her position. She's not going to run in, deciding to wait for them to come to her, instead, as she settles into her ready stance, sword up and ready to defend against the first of any blows that might come her way.
Angus hurriedly fights with his Leather coat, dawning it as he clutches a Square of hardtack between his teeth. He couldn't believe no one had informed him of this till the last second, an angry growl escaping around the food as he forcibly buckles on his weapons belt. He clears the fog with a bit of a startle, taking in the situation for a few moments before the hardtack is thrown away. So much for the food, as he draws both blades at his hip, rapier and dagger becoming engulfed in Creator fire as he moves to support the rest of the freeswords.
Several of the rushing zombies fall to the ground, their ragged armors on fire and them twitching and clawing at the ground. The smell of burning, moldy flesh fills the air around them. The ones that remain standing, six of the originally twelve, have reached the group and start swinging axes and maces at Cara, Angus and Millicent. All three manage to fend off the attacking shamblers, Millicent even decapitating one with a counter, causing it to drop to the ground. The main part of the horde starts moving now that their vanguard is being slaughtered and burned, row on row of armored skeletons and zombies stepping out of the mist and slowly heading down the road.
Cara swiftly rolls to the side to dodge the swinging weapons. She promptly glares at the zombies and smiles for a moment as her sabre lights up in a bright white glow of energy. Her gauntlets also begin to glow brightly as well and she rushes forward to deal with the many zombies with her attention firmly placed on dealing with this set of zombies.
