A late evening in and around Firmament, the sky lit a bright orange. The reason for that soon becomes clear - a block of hovels in the shanties are aflame, hovels burning and thick, foul smoke heavy with the dirt of the poor curling as it rises into the air.

Most of the beings about seem resigned to the event - a few just stand by idly while others belatedly form a bucket chain to and from the nearest wells, but all move dully and with half-glazed eyes, as if this were a weekly, not daily event. It probably is. Miserable lot this must be, for fires to be considered a part of daily life.

The Iguana has chosen to join the scene to put out the fires. It doesn't seem like much, but he arrives in his griffon form to help with this. Immediately, and without taking a bucket even, he starts to use the water maths that he is knowledgable of to cause it to rain over the affected homes. Or at least try to.

It didn't take long for word to hit a certain lion's ears that Shanty Town was having trouble with fires once again. Quickly, Dio attempts to arrive as fast as he possibly could, being restricted to ground travel of course. Eventually, he reaches his destination and mixes in with the crowd a bit while he attempts to use fire magic to help quell the flames. "'re there any beings still stuck in those houses," Dio asks someone nearby. With such little panic, the possibility probably wasn't high, but it's always good to make sure.

Angel hears that Shanty town was once more in trouble, and she decided to go find her lord Angus and bring him out here herself. Her chain tunic was always made to be bulky on her, to allow for her tranformation into a griffon, but now.. now it felt a bit more snuggly then before, and the girl felt more then a bit heavier. She flys low and looks over the site as she lands, "I hope that wasn't too bad my Lord." She says as she comes to a soft landing. Looking at the fires, she knos there isn't too much she can do to help personally, but decides that... then it starts to rain. Looking over to the mage causing it, she slow blinks. "Well, I suppose that works." she says.

Unfortunately, no one seems to pay very much attention to Dio - or at least, in the positive sense. The few imporvished beings who do cast the lion dirty looks at his expensive coat, even if it is tattered. At least they have enough presence of mind to not try and steal it off his back or throw rocks at him when there's a shanty fire going, though. The griffons are better received, though, especially when Mazurek causes a slight drizzle - sensing that they might be able to bail and get off scot-free, some of the more timid folk set down their buckets and leave the chain, heading for cover.

The fires are still burning, though, but at least they're not threatening to spin out of control any more. This has only enabled more and more curious onlookers from the further reaches of the shanties to arrive, stare, and drop their two scepters' worth on the fire without actually lifting a finger to help.

The ebony griffon was actually causing it to rain from the air and not from the ground. He keeps himself aloft during his concentration by using the updraft from the fires to their fullest potential. He didn't bother trying to shield himself with air magics as that would be a waste of energy. Seeing that there were so few on the ground actually trying to help he squawks and calls down to them with the aid of said air magic, "Well, what are you all doing? I can't do this by myself, and these are your shelters!"

"Well...I'm not dead, that's a good thing right?" Angus forgot how much he actually hated flying, big shock considering he knows air magic, and he groans a little as he manages not to fully fall off Angels back. The fox looked like....he had just woke up, his fur completly disheveled as he was still trying to pull on his jacket as he looked up at the fires. "Dammit...well, at least I'm going to help this time." He mutters to himself as he manages to defeat his unruley jacket and starts adding his own spell into the mix, a massive force of air to try and suffocate the flames.

It's been awhile since Dio had ever received any amount of prejudice when it came to his coat. It did look rather expensive and quite mistakable as high society even. However, his somewhat dirty figure, scars, and personality typically shattered any of those beliefs. The stares hurt just a bit, but it wasn't anything he couldn't get over. "Ah! Good to see ya two," he waves over to Angus and Angel as they arrive, even attempting a wave to the still flying gryphon if he could even see it. Regardless, he continues to help quell the flame with fire magic the best he can.

Angel looks over to Maz again and stops a moment. Maybe she really shouldn't be out here. "No My Lord, you are not dead, and if you are going to be a dragon and join me in the skies, you are going to have to get used to it." she says blushing a bit. Though she looks over to the fires. She starts scrawling in the dirt with a claw some math magic a spell to pull air away from the fires, remove their sustanance. She hopes these combined efforts don't actually lead to a backlash however, keeping a careful eye out for such!

Mazurek's angry exclaimation finally does get a bit of a rise from the otherwise apathic crowd. They don't even murmur, just look up at the griffon with the equaivalent of what could be considered a collective shrug.

"Can't rightly say ah'm overly concerned with this one burnin' down," an old, hunched terrier says as he watches Angus and Angel work their collective air magic to get the fires under control. "T'was a bad 'un. If the fire ain't gonna spread, then I say we let it raze to the ground and take out all within it. And if th' owners were still inside...good riddance."

This sentiment is met by various noises of agreement from the crowd. "Blue Shells were runnin' an Ebon den in here. Downwind onna bad day, y' could smell the death-smoke comin' down the street. An act o' providence from the Creators, this was."

Mazurek pauses in his flight to hover within the light of some of the fires, which reflect off his dark body a bit, "So you're saying you couldn't rise up and toss them out for doing such a thing? Or ask for help with doing such?" The griffon is baffled, and his tone definitely shows it.

Angus smirks a little as he holds the spell. "Really now, and you didn't bother to wonder what would happen if you let it burn and it decided to spread to your own homes?" Clearly the fox was not in the mood to play nice with the crowd gathering around them, he was still trying to wake up as it is. "Angel, I still haven't even changed to my draconic form thank you....So, flying might be a long way away."

Dio wasn't quite sure what ebon was, but if it were being ran by a gang down in a den and producing awful smoke, it probably didn't bode well from the perspective of most modest citizens. "Blue Shells 're at it again, 're they? Can't say I approve o' whatever they were doin', but we ain't gonna let these fires spread more than they have to." The lion furthers his concentration with a small frown upon his muzzle. "'elp us stop the fires first, then we can talk about who's got what comin' to who an' all that. Then ya can break out the hammers 'n' what not."

Angel gives a very girly giggle to Angus, "Not if I push you off the side of a cliff!" She says coyly. Then she turns to the house and frowns a bit, she works now more toward keeping the fire from spreading, and the smoke going directly up or away, "Nasty stuff... should be no harm in letting it burn up if we keep the smoke away from everywhere else, and, if what you say is true, then it is better to just let this place burn down." She thinks about her connections with the underworld a moment, trying to remember if this was a den for such things or not. Having lived here most of her life and worked in such things herself.

Now that gets the locals' attention, them staring at Mazurek with such incredulity as if he'd told them he were a Creator. Eventually, though, some of them turn away and return to watching the fire, murmurs of "nob" and "outsider" floating through the air. Angus' comments are met with even more hostility, being outright jeered, perhaps in part due to his noble dress. Thankfully, though, no one sees fit to throw anything - yet.

At least the terrier has a bit more of a head, not being part of the mob - and everyone knows the general formula for determining the intelligence of a mob, being inversely proportional to the number of beings that make it up. "Aye, th' flying lass is right. Th' fire's under control now, and that's not to say we - I mean, I - don't appreciate your help. But now that 'tis fine...best let it finish its course. Was bound to happen someday, someone leaves a pipe lit, a burner going, and th' death-smoke makes it hard t' think...I ain't got no regrets, and neither does now't on this street. Let it burn, that's the way these things happen...leastways till some other gang moves in. Best thing could happen is the Thieves' Guiild, they keep things stable leastways."

The murmuring from the crowd finally has the griffon landing and just ending the spell that was making it rain. He bristles for but a moment, thinking of lashing out at the crowd, but settles quickly and just pads up to the terrier, "You know, if there was a way to do such, I'd try to buy everything in this district and rebuild it so it isn't the deathtrap that it is."

Angus is use to the hostilities and jeering by now as he allows his spell to fade before turning to look at the crowd. "I never said anything about actually being bad, just want to make sure that this doesn't spread to harm anyone that doesn't deserve their house being burnt down." The fox comments back as he crosses his arms over his chest. Waiting to see if they take a jab at him with that.

Turning back to Angel he just blinks in surprise. "....Um...I'll make sure to stay away from cliffs for the time being." He comments, his glance actually a little worried before he turns his attention back to the mob.

"Yeah yeah, we get that lad," Dio grumbles after he listens to the terrier speak. "We can let it all burn down if ya want, but as the fox-kit said, we don' want it to go spreadin' to people's homes. That's all..." The lion's concentration begins to fade along with some of the others of the group and puts his hands back to their appropriate sides. "If ya know lad, do ya 'ave any information 'bout the thieves' guild recent actions? I'm a bit curious if they've done anythin' o' note as o' late."

Angel continues to work at directing the smoke from the fires away from other homes as she listens. Listen and don't speak, that is a better way to get information. She grins to Angus a moment, that is about all she does besides continue her work. She didn't trust the Theives Guild farthen then she could throw a heavy clan rhino, but they did have their uses.

The terrier merely shakes his head and whispers something to Mazurek, then sadly shakes his head. "Well, Ser expensive lion with the good taste, I don't think that's going to be happening now." Indeed, most of the impromptu bucket chain has settled down now and left their posts for their homes, the buckets disappearing to...well wherever these things go in the shanties, if they're not outright stolen. At the sound of the Thieves' Guild, though, he raises his paws, palms outstretched, and takes a step back. "Don't know nowt, ain't speaking nowt! We all got homes to go back to, and would like it to stay that way! Speaking of home, think it's 'bout time we headed back - if'n you want to wait and see who shows up to claim this turf, knock yerselves out, but ah don't wanna be here when it happens!"

Fear, the only thing more motivating than anger to a mob of shanty-town dwellers. Within moments, the crowd disperses, quickly scuttling back into the streets, bolt-holes and alleyways, leaving the smouldering, stinking remains of a drug den to burn their last before finally, too, fading into nonexistence.

Mazurek listens to what the Terrier whispers to him only to grimace, somehow making it look like one despite the beak. He is a bit late in responding, though, as the crowd disperses in fear and the Terrier explains why. Snorting, he merely settles down and looks to the others, "Should we bother waiting, or just go and let it happen?"

Angus shrugs as he watches the crowd disperse, his gaze a dull one. "No point, only thing we will be doing is making them more nervous." Yawning he turns and starts to walk off, not really in the mood to put up with more jeering without snapping back.

Dio didn't expect much information about the thieves guild from the old man, but it was worth a shot perhaps. With a shrug, Dio finally completely ceases his fire magic and smooths out his coat. "Seems like it ain't gonna spread. That's all I care 'bout really. Think I'll be headin' back off to the inn if ya don't mind."

Angel continues to work for a while, 'til she is sure that Angus at least is out of ear and eye shot. Then, in a flurry of fur and feathers, Angel takes flight and whips around to the Terrior, landing infront of him, and giving a grin that would make a butcher's blood run cold. "Hi.
