As Selena would be in her cell the, time for departure pushed back as Luxania had sent for the wolfess' soul gems, the runner to meet them at the gates of the city when the departed, a sudden explosion rocks the building! The walls shaking as dusy falls, before the two felines from before open the door to her cell and motion her out. "Come on! We need to leave -now-!"
While she was fine before the sudden explosion, Selena is set on edge the moment it rocks the building. "Do you know who's responsible? I'm not particularly surprised, but it'll help if we know." she asks the two cats, picking herself up from the bed to move with some degree of haste to the pair. "I dislike being around explosions either way. They're never a good sign.
"No clue, but we're not taking chances! Come on, we need to get you down to the right wing with Lunaxia, the Captain has horses at the ready for us." The Cats ensuring she's ready before begining to jog, one on each side of her as they make their way up to the intersecation of the pathways.
Selena mutters something under her breath. "The timing seems a bit convenient though, don't you think?" She replies, moving to keep pace with the pair. "Horses, though? I'll stick with flight if possible."
The Cats don't leave much to be said as they begin to cross the intersection, the path to their right that lead to the yard of the prison burst open, as dozens of inmates begin to pour in and engage in combat with a squad of guards that were caught off focus... Though one particularly unlucky guard finds him writhing in pain, with his body decaying as a Raven with a leather mask dashes by him... The woman far more equiped than the inmates, and one of the probably sources of the explosion. "She's here! The Captain is not far as well!"
Selena shudders a little at the sight of the unfortunate guard's fate - despite having seen it before, some things never lose their effect. "... Can't do anything to them without a real soul." She grumbles, cursing loudly at the shout. "Where are we heading? Make it fast!" She demands - it might be strange that she's not heading for perfect cover, but given the nature of the magic being used it's probably because it's not entirely necessary.
"SHIT! Just down this hallway let's go!" The Cat to Selena's left grabbing her wrist as he very bluntly drags her through the hallway, leading her up to the heavily reinforced door that led to the room where she had spoken with Lunaxia last night. The cats ushering her in quickly before shutting it and working to seal it as tight as they could before any of the dark math could escape in to the room.
"Good, you're alright... Listen, we don't have much time. The Lieutenant informed me they've almost wiped out the marksmen on our roof, we're leaving -now- and you're not getting seperated from me so long as you're still in that soul gem." The Mouse walking into Selena's field of view, ladden with her heavy repeating crossbow and a sabre on her hip. "The horses are just on the other side of this door, let's all get going." The two cats shaking their heads as they reach up to fiddle with their own soul gems, before drawing their sword in their right hand, while making a ball of flame in their left. "You two go, we'll kill the crow bitch and buy you all some time... We'll meet you at the fortress."
Selena doesn't seem too pleased with being dragged along, trying her best to keep her composure despite stumbling a little at the sudden redirection and jolt of her arm. When Lunaxia comes into view and begins speaking, though, she raises an eyebrow. "I was told you were fetching my own gems. Do you have them here?" She asks bluntly before nodding back to the cats. "Stay safe. I doubt the freeswords haven't heard about this by now. Much as I'd like to stay and help I'm a little concerned about the beings back at the fortress now." She replies, moving with the ouse to the exit. "I don't want to make a hole in the wall to leave. And I can't do that easily even with my souls."
"No, the runner was dispatched and should have them at the gates for us... And as such, take this." The Mouse reaching onto one of the saddled to throw a thick robes to Selena, before donning her own and climbing onto her horse. "The Lieutenant manning the gates knows not to stop us, and swore to close the gates for an hour after we make our way through."
The Two felines giving a nod and salute to Selena and Lunaxia before they smirk slightly. "Don't worry, we'll be fine." A thick pounding on the door and the sound of straining hinges causing them to refocus as Lunaxia spurs her horse forward some while awaiting Selena so they can take off...
Selena tsks quietly. "Great. Is now a bad time to say that I never have and can not ride a horse?" She grumbles, donning the heavy clothes - though it's not as if she has a better option, managing to hoist herself onto her own without much trouble, able to do little other than to mimic the captain's actions. The cons of being from the city.
The two manage to make their way out just in time it seems, as the door seems to break just as they turn around the corner, the Captain leading Selena on carefully while holding her repeating crossbow in a manner for quick use while glancing over her shoulder. "It's not far to the gates, how many man the fortress for the Ironsouls?" The duo soon arriving at the gate, as the wolf from the night before rides up to toss Selena a small bag containing her soul gems.
Selena gives the wolf an appreciative nod as he passes her the soulgems, making short work of swapping hers back out for her 'normal' ones. "Most days? As of late, not as many as there used to be. Kilsa's been fairly unavailable lately. There's enough beings there to keep it safe, and there's a lot of places on the premises in the fortress proper that still aren't properly documented."
Lunaxia gives the wolf a nod before motioning him to them as her horse kicks up to move through the gate then. "I see... I doubt they have the abilities to hit both spots at once, all they'd need to do is kill us and nobody would know where the book is after all. Richard will ride with us, and hopefully we should make it before nightfall... I am sorry this is happening."
The wolf as silent as ever as he moves next to Selena's horse, and takes it's reigns to help lead the inexperienced rider along with a grunt.
Selena shakes her head. "I'd rather not make any assumptions about where they are or aren't. If you give me a few moment I'll be able to keep pace without the horse - it'll probably be faster that way." She notes, looking back to the mouse. "It's not something you should be apologizing for, though. It's neither your fault nor your responsibility. I want to know how exactly they were made aware of my presence there though; from the sounds of things they were looking for me specifically."
The wolf nods and pauses for Selena to go ahead and use her math to help carry along side the guards as the captain speaks. "Most likely they were watching your home. Breaking in and killing you would draw attention after your waved that book around, but in the midst of a prison riot? It'd make sense to say the least... And that they didn't attack the entrance speaks of them thinking we kept you closer to the general populations, so we most likely did not have an inside leak."
Selena shakes her head. "I wasn't even back at home until that day. Until that point I was staying at the Solacious Manor waiting for a friend to recover." She replies concernedly. "Either they've been waiting and planning or there's something else going on here." She replies, dismounting the horse and starting to propel herself forwards through 'jumps' of air magic. "It's something I may want to look into later though. I'm quite fond of my house being habitable."
The wolf sends off Selena's horse before spurring his on as they take a hurried pace while the captain speaks. "I warned you about Olg'ish, until they feel you're not a threat to their plans then they -will- pursue you. This is one of the reasons I need that book, not that I doubt your strength but so long as they target you, dozens of innocents risk getting involved." The Mousette frowning heavily as their travel appears quiet for the most part...
Selena looks back to Lunaxia - though she says nothing, the message is a clear enough 'I know' - the rest of the travel taking time, though surely enough the Ironsoul's Defenders fortress emerges and grows on the horizon.
As the trio begin to approach the fortress, the quite of the night is disturbed as a large crack resounds through the air and Richard's horse collapses into a smaller chasim, with him being thrown forward and left groaning and dazed.
Infront of the group is a large elephant, clad in plate mail with a -large- warhammer, his gaze focused on them steadily as he speaks. "My contract is for the women, if you two place yourselves before me, the male will be spared. Your friends already threw their lives away to the Raven, I ask that you not cause more bloodshed than necessary."
Selena manages a halt fairly easily and sighs. "Really? Are we REALLY doing this?" She questions the elephant, aparrently not too pleased with the situation. "... I'm telling you, Lunaxia, it's been planned."
A few moments pass in silence, peering back at the elephant. "Drop your weapon." She finally states flatly, the woman focussing fire magic onto the item's haft as she makes her demand. "I don't want a fight. That would end badly for all of us."
The elephant doesn't give Selena much time to continue on, slamming his foot down to the ground to force Lunaxia's horse to throw her off before charging at the wolfess... her magic causing the head of his hammer to fall free from the shaft, though it doesn't stop him from swinging out at her, and just barely missing his mark! Richard groaning as he forces his way to his feet, and draws his sword and shield with a grimace, the Wolf striking out at the Elephant's right leg right behind the armor to draw blood!
Selena curses quietly as she's charged, using the brief moment to call forth her elemental - the magmaesque simulacrum throwing down a thick cloud of smoke over the elephant. "Richard, watch it! Just because he's partially disarmed doesn't mean you should try close combat so soon." She warns - not even mentioning that it hampers her ability to attack as well.
The wolf grunts as the Elephant swings the shaft of his warhammer back around, his shield intercepting it as he takes a quick jump back and enters the defensive. Lunaxia finally leveling her repeating crossbow at the target before calling out to the flying Selena. "Get him from behind! His back looked open!"
The Elephant blinded by the smoke for a moment, but it doesn't seem to phase him as his foot crashes down once more... Only this time the earth bucks violently around him, sending Richard flying back some onto his back. "The Raven should have taken this watch, not I. No matter, you will come down flying one, or they will die in your stead."
Selena glares back at the Elephant. "Both of you need to get out of here!" She yells back to Lunaxia and Richard, cursing silently as she has her elemental move down between the heavy clanner and the wolf, descending roughly opposite to them - though remaining just out of reach. Before anything else, the wolfess performs her usual battlefield control trickery - miring the ground around the elephant as much as she can in the short window of time while having her elemental disgorge a bolt of fire at the elephant. "Why are you so insistent on killing them, then? What puts you to such a low level?" She questions.
The elephants armor turns read as it takes the molten bolt, grunting gently as he's soon stuck in a mire as well, truding forward some before swinging the shaft at the elemental as he speaks slowly. "The Contracts demands your life, and the mouse. I provided the option for the male to live, but he is willing to fight as are you. So, until you come down, I will kill them."
His sluggish movements giving Richard the time the wolf needs to rise to his feet and raise his shield, as Lunaxia begins to circle around him. "You're a fool if you think I'm fleeing! You're my chance to get some damned evidence!"
Selena curses softly. "Well, if I can't convince you..." She sighs, looking back to the pair present. "What would make a being like yourself turn to kill another, then? You have a reason, and I want it." She grumbles, flinging a cutting winds spell of her own directly at the being's back. "You're here for me, not for them."
Regardless of the other's actions, the wolfess's elemental produces another clump of fiery magic and hurls it again, aiming for the suited figure's knees.
The elephant unfortunatly turns in time to manage her spell to crash into his armor, the being huffing as he's smacked by the emental's attack in his knees! Lunaxia finally manages a shot as she unloads her repeating crossbow at him, leaving him to howl out in pain as he's left with a few dozen new additions half dug into his back... Richard slowly backing away as it seemed the two ranged were good, and prepares to intervene should he charge someone again.
"I kill, because it is the way of this world. My abilities were hired, and a contract made... And so, I go to kill. That is the way I have chosen, that is my path. Is it hard to understand flying one?"
Selena shakes her head, looking back down to the Elephant and taking a somber tone. "It is hard to understand. It's difficult for soldiers to find work outside of wars, but circular logic like that isn't a good reason to do it. You've been hired to kill us but from what I can tell, you don't even know our names. I want to know why YOU have chosen a path like that. Do you really see yourself as a contract killer? Is it worth it, and why? There has to be some kind of reason for this all."
"Enough, do you believe I shall just depart that easily? You speak much, but do not appear to know -why- men do what they do girl. I enjoyed fighting, I enjoyed killing... And I have accepted this fact." The Elephant jumping forward to bring the shaft of his weapon down on Richard's shield, the metal denting and wolf howling as his arm is no doubt broken by the blow!
Selena curses quietly as the elephant lunges forwards through the muck AND her elemental, the woman shaking her head. "I feel sorry for you." Is her only reply before she has her elemental follow through around the elephants back, moving aside only for her to launch another twisting gale of wind at the elephant's still exposed back. "Richard, deflection not blocking!" She barks - though it's easier said than done sometimes.
The elephant cries out once more as the wind slices at his back, shaking slightly as he falls to a knee for a moment before taking a sharp breath in. "I never requested your pity. Finish this, or I shall hunt you to the ends of this world." Elephant remaining there as Richard limps back some. Lunaxia fiddling with her crossbow as she almost has a new set of bolts in...
Selena shakes her head, the wolfess apparently having difficulty forcing herself to do any more for a good few moments. "... All beings are entitled to mercy. I'm sorry you feel otherwise." She replies softly, shaking her head. "May I have your name, then?" The wolfess asks, readying one more spell - though it's clear she doesn't want to follow through. "That's the last thing I'll ask of you, if you truly believe you you'd follow us to the ends of promise and kill us. I just find it hard to believe that you're telling me everything."
The Elephant remains still as he stays there, gaze down as he speaks slowly for her to hear. "Harmleikur." The Elephant slowly begining to rise shakely as Lunaxia dashes around to try and get at his back once more...
Selena nods solemnly. "I'm sorry, Harmleikur. I hope you find peace." She replies softly, before putting her magic into use again - that rarely seen fire magic, producing a searing column of flames around the elephant.
The wolf and mouse back away from the flames as the elephant is consumed, the being surprisingly silent as he burns, though he does stumble before finally falling to the earth silent and still as Lunaxia grimaces. "... We're almost there then... If there were more, they'd have all attacked at once. Let us get inside so Richard can be tended to, and you can get the book."
Selena shivers a little, nodding back to Lunaxia and moving over to Richard, gesturing to the broken shield arm wordlessly and working some earth magic to form a cast around it - nothing flashy, but at least to keep it from any further damage. "... Why does this always seem to happen." she muses quietly before disembarking the battlegrounds to make way to the fortress with the pair - though it's a little difficult to tell exactly what she was referring to - the battle, the being or the injuries.
"Even great sages do not know... It's why I'm happy to remain a fool and not trouble myself over it." Richards dry sounding voice sounding as he follows through with her, Lunaxia brining up the rear with her crossbow at the ready before finally the group manages to reach the fortres, and safety it seems.
