Mudscuttler

Heavily armoured and many-legged, mudscuttlers are a ubiquitous sight all around Saltide, making their homes amongst the roots and mud of the mangroves. Extremely omnivorous, these crustaceans are a vital part of Saltide's ecology, and in turn are hunted and eaten by the swamp dwellers themselves, the tender meat being quite the delicacy after one's pounded through the thick shell. There's a lot of it, too, for something the size of a medium-sized dog.

The creatures themselves are not without defences, though. Their tough, spiny shell aside, they possess an impressively oversized claw, which they use to rip and tear through their food, and any potential predators that come their way.
