A soft rumble, a small tailflick, and Flora gestures towards the research-department. "Now now, miss Sara. Flora thinks Flora may have a task for you, yes," she murrs with a smile, a flick of her ears, and a rumble.

"We do not currently have a forge, no. But depending on if this research turns up anything useful, we might invest, yes," she rumbles with a smile, before gesturing at an emptied workbench in the alchemical section of the R&D-department. Well, mostly emptied. Upon the workbench are several bars of different metals, ranging from gold and silver to iron, brass and bronze. None of them overly large, though they must've still cost quite a bit.

Following close behind Flora as she moves, Sara enters the R&D room and has a soft, and rather visible shiver run down her spine as the lizard woman remembers her tour through the area, and the warning that had come with it. Though a few steps into the building she does seem to find her voice, which begins as a squeak, and finally works its way back up to the regular tone, "Really? A task, hmm? Anything like the test you had me do upon my first arrival to this place?" looking over the table and noticing the bars she asks, "Starting up metalwork, Flora?" her tone seeming reserved, in a formal manner, while her tail and the speed it swishes betrays her true emotions. "What, if I may ask would you like me to do?"

"Flora is not sure. We need information on the way different metals react to force, how much force, and the like. How they react to heat. How they react to cold. And at some point, how they react to alchemical mixtures... But that last one can wait," she mumbles, before pointing at a few of the devices on the table. "This one, Flora made it, will apply force... Flora would like to know how far the metals bend for the number of turns of the wheel... It's not exact, but it's better than 'pushing it really hard' or 'pushing it softly', she mumbles, pointing at the rope that spans from the wheel to a loop on the other side. "The wheel locks, allowing us to see how the metal reacts to constant pull as well, yes."

"This is for heating the metal... The table is enchanted to resist heat, and the fire only goes so high, so you should be fine, yes." But it should be enough to find out some things. Finally, Flora would like to see how dfferent metals react together," she rumbles, tail flicking lightly. Band them together, and re-run the tests, yes."

As Flora explains the project, Sara folds her arms across her chest, and tilts one arm upwards to support her chin in a few of her fingers. "Mm.." she mumbles with a brief nod, trying to take in the tasks at hand. After a moment of thought Sara asks, "So.. you want me to find the breaking points of the metal against multiple sources?" before looking the tools over, "An odd request, but I suppose I can see the point. Trying to figure out when a metal gives.." she nods again before turning to Flora again and states, "Very well, I'll see what I can do. Which would you like to see first? The melting, or breaking point?"

"Flora wants to see the mechanical response to different sources of stress. Breaking-points are a nice addition, but... That's not what this is about. If we want to find a use for these metals, we need to look at them differently, yes."

"Flora wants to see if the metals change shape when they are heated. Wants to see if combinations of metals that aren't mixed during casting will behave differently," she rumbles, pointing towards the tin and copper plates, then to the bronze one.

Sara's gaze turns to the plates as they're all pointed to, her eyes only remaining on them as long as Flora's finger had been pointing. "Mm.. got it." the lizard woman states as she walks on over to the tin plate, grabs it, and takes it over to the device Flora had made. "And how is this supposed to work?" she asks as she sets the ingot on what she had assumed was the correct spot and waits for both information, and the go-ahead.

"Place the bar like this," the cat mumbles, turning the bar until it's in the upright position, before putting the rope around it and then clamping it on at the top as well.

"Behind it, look at the bars. Note down the number of the bar it's at. Big bars are five. The biggest one, here, is zero. Once done, turn the handlesome until the next locking position, and write down the result again," the she-cat murrs in explaination.

"Hrm.. sounds easy enough." Sara mumbles as she looks over the bars and writing the subsequent number, and briefly describing the state of the ingot before giving the wheel a turn until it had clicked into its locked position where she had made another note. The entire series continues on for a short while until finally the soft, and now horribly bent metal had been considered 'finished' by the lizard who had removed it from its spot and set it aside for a future heating test. Picking up the ingot that had been pointed to after the tin, Sara affixes it to the place in Flora's contraption just as she had been shown and makes her way to the wheel.

"Bent bars should be labeled and set aside. We can have them re-cast later for further tests. They shouldn't be re-used, no," the she-cat rumbles, before opening a small drawer in the desk, showing several other bars, of various metals. Both those on the table, and those not present. "Write down the thickness in number of bars as well, yes."

Sara turns her attention away from her notes, and the wheel to Flora as she explains what would happen to the bent piece and nods in understanding, "Ah, right. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks." her voice seeming only to drone on, her mind apparently still on her work, keeping the events of the latest turn firm in her mind.

Flora smiles softly. "Flora will want daily reports, in the study, yes. If anything seems out of the ordinary with any material or combination thereof, Flora wants an immediate report. After removing the material from the current setup, of course. As for the heat-tests. Just place the metal on the table, heat it, and see if anything happens. Later, we may do tests with heated metal to see how much easier it bends, but... Flora would prefer not lighting the rope just yet," she murrs with a small smirk.

"Right.." Sara states as she writes the next set of numbers down. Looking up from the page next Sara turns to Flora and asks, "Hm? Ah, daily tests and send the findings to you? Sure, you can count on me." as the end of Flora's statement finally gets through to her, Sara's lips begin to pull at the corners into a friendly grin, though aside from a soft chuckle remains silent on it. Making her way past Flora next, Sara frees the bent metal from its spot and takes it over to the table before procuring another, along the way she asks, "What do we have to heat the metal? I've little knowledge in fire magic, so I assume you've a.. kiln or something?"

"We've got a few magical burners," the she-cat notes, pointing at various devices in the other stands, used to heat various mixtures. They look like your average gas-fueled burner, except that they've been runed all over with fire magic, forming a dial for the size of the flame, and a dial for the temperature... "They will, of course, run out at some point, Just set them aside, we'll have them re-powered later, yes," the she-cat explains, smiling lightly.

Taking a quick mental note on the burners locations, and how to work them Sara nods an affirmative, "Alright, I believe that's all I need to know for now. Thank you, Flora." with that she looks to the tigress in question and gives her a nod in thanks and turns her attention back to her work, her tail swishing happily all the while.

Flora nods and smiles as she links out the door, her ears flicking. "Flora will expect the first report tonight or tomorrow morning. Keep Flora posted, yes," she murrs with a smile, even as she moves towards the upstairs areas.
