Horned Belcher

A common pest amongst the palm groves, the average horned belcher hides in the mud, virtually invisible with its smooth brown hide. From there, it devours passing insects - beetles, hornets, mosquitoes - but the sweet, sticky fruit and flower clusters of the palms are enough incentive for it to leave its burrow and climb trees. All four of its webbed sticky feet are much suited to this task, and it's an unfortunate being who reaches for a fruit cluster and finds an angry, spiny amphibian croaking loudly at them - hence the name.

While horned belchers can launch their spines at prey and predators alike, they take a while to regenerate, so it's done sparingly and often as an escape attempt from large predators.
