Overview

The Autominer is a boss within the Undertunnels, and may be reached through accessing a hidden passage in the upper lobby ruins in the main section of the Undertunnels. A boss that specialises in big hits and direct damage, this ancient mining golem is a force to be reckoned with for an average party.

The Autominer will drop a runic cog and the energised recipe when defeated.

Lore Entry:

"Don't turn it on. Wrong mining cycle set. Speak with foreman."

The Autominer may have created the Undertunnels. It may also have destroyed the Undertunnels. But that is the way of things, is it not?

There's still much speculation amongst the machine priests who study the Undertunnels as to what exactly went wrong with the Autominer's machine spirits. Certainly it was made for drilling, and drill it did, but all records show that it malfunctioned and went awry, collapsing various tunnels and placing the rest of the place in considerable disarray. As to why it went awry, though...

The spider-like legs on the golem ensure that it easily transverses rough terrain is quite unique amongst even other Creator devices, although no being has been able to make such a design work in any practical fashion.

All in all, the Autominer serves as a reminder as to how fickle machine spirits really can be, and why all beings should treat them with reverence.

Strategy

The Autominer will spawn with a central device, as well as four leg joints. The goal of the first phase is to destroy all four leg joints - the autominer itself is immune to damage. However, this can be tricky as all four leg joints will constantly use AoE knockdown moves - it is best to focus fire down each leg one by one, both to reduce incoming damage and knockdown, and that after each leg joint is destroyed, the party will be healed for 500 each. The Autominer itself is not extremely threatening in the first phase save for its mining laser, which can do up to 1700-2000 damage on a geared tank.

After all four leg joints are destroyed, phase two begins and the Autominer's control core will detach from its main body. The core will still be normally invulnerable to damage, but a relay system is transmitting data from the inactive body to the core - I.E. it both buffs the core, and debuffs and buffclears the party with moves such as discordant wave and nullify. It has about 14,000 HP, and should be destroyed posthaste.

Once the relay system is destroyed, the core will be vulnerable to damage for 12 actions. It is possible for a geared party to destroy the relatively weak core in that time; however, if not, the relay system will respawn, along with a machine servitor, and the core will become immune to damage once more.

The second phase may be harder or easier than the first, depending on one's point of view. There will not be as much knockdown in the second, but the Autominer's damage will increase and it gains access to its dangerous Creator Wrath AoE nuke ability that can easily instantly wipe a group with insufficient maintenance healing. It will possess all of the skills from the first phase, including the mining laser.
