Adrestia
From Rusted Promises
Adrestia
Queen of revenge. Adrestia perches on a throne comprised of the bodyparts of those who have displeased her. She takes the appearance of a Creator, with eyes that turn deeper red as her fury grows. She is a stalwart ally, and will risk much for the sake of those she knows as friend, but those who spurn her or her allies will know her wrath until it is repaid four times. While she seeks revenge, her right hand becomes that of a beast, be that the grasping talons of a bird, great paws of a bear, or other menacing predator feature. The closer she comes to reaching her fourth repayment, the more bestial it becomes, until she is satisfied, and resumes her normal shape. This is only visible while actively pursuing her vengeance.
Basic Pact
- Bid: I bid you to enforce.
- Offer: I offer you justice against those who would wrong you or yours.
- Purpose: Remind those who draw breath that their word is bond. Enforce the law upon them by returning their injustice four times. Forgive those who have been punished, but always watch for further treachery.
- Gift: Supplicants of Adrestia are given a pendant with Adrestria's visage on one side, and smooth steel on the other. The flat side becomes engraved with the names of those the supplicant swears vengeance on, and that name is crossed for each vengeance delivered, until it vanishes with the fourth.
- Mark: Those of Creator or herbivore stock who follow Adrestria find their features become that of a predator while they pursue vengeance. Great claws, teeth, or other features become manifest as they stalk their prey. Those of predatorial stock exude a palpable aura of intimidation during this time, making it clear to others that they are not to be interfered with. In either event, +2 to social actions to get a third party person to get out of the way.
Benefits
- A supplicant of Adrestia may spend a hero point to swear vengeance upon someone. That someone must be present, or a letter must be delivered to them. If a letter is used, the oath is not valid until they receive the letter. Choosing to not read the letter does not delay the oath.
- A being who has had vengeance sworn upon them may avoid the four fold vengeance by throwing themselves on the mercy of the supplicant and admitting wrongdoing. The supplicant may then only exact one vengeance, and the oath fades immediately thereafter.
- A being who does this, then goes back to doing what caused the oath, immediately reactivates the oath, and the supplicant is made aware of this, no matter the distance involved.
- While so sworn, the supplicant enjoys +1 to all rolls against the target, growing by +1 for each vengeance visited on the person, and fading after the fourth.
- Only two oaths can be upheld at one time easily. After this, another hero point must be spent per oath past the 2nd at time of swearing(2 hero points to oath a 3rd person, 3 hero points to oath a 4th person). This must be spent at time of swearing.
- If proof that the sworn is innocent of the crime is presented to the supplicant, the oath is dissolved. If vengeances have already been delivered, the supplicant must make an equal number of reparations with the target or risk anger of Adrestia.
- Proof can be presented after the fact, which will trigger the reparation requirement, even though the oath is already dissolved.
- Reparations must be completed, even if the target is dead, requiring their next of kin be located.
