Funneltrap Spider

Living in the loose rocks or dirt of warm climates, the funneltrap spider is named for the funnel-like nest it digs in the ground and lines with silk. From this position, it hides the entrance to its lair with a lid of hard earth and waits for passing insects or small mammals to draw close. Wasting no time, the spider lunges out, sinking its fangs into its prey and letting its poison make the kill.
